The Amazing Mind – How Change Happens

Time and again, I have come across sources that point to meditation as the key to moving beyond the perceived limits of the mind. Becoming greater than what we are. Developing the ability to shape our personal reality as we would like it to be. As we become more aware of the mind-body connection and the power of meditation, we tune in to the potential for healing, improving our mental health and creating our desired future. Changing our reality falls within the realms of possibility.

A source that describes meditation as a vehicle to achieving greater control is author, researcher and lecturer Dr. Joe Dispenza. He has written You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter (2014), Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself (2012), Evolve Your Brain (2009), and the most recent book, Becoming Supernatural – How Common People are Doing the Uncommon (2017). The term supernatural might be somewhat misleading here as Dispenza uses the term to describe going beyond our limited beliefs to create outcomes that we thought impossible. Whether this means experiencing mystical phenomena or healing our physical bodies, Dispenza explains how this is possible through scientific reasoning. Shaping our desired future can also mean finding the perfect job. The perfect romantic partner. Finding a business partner. A dream home. The best location for growing a business. Getting a promotion and so much more!

We are often told that meditation is key to expanding our minds, but how does this happen? How is being in the present moment link to the future we are trying to create? How can we possibly heal our bodies with our minds? How does one manifest intent? How do our thoughts affect and shape the physical world around us? Becoming Supernatural explains the mechanics behind all these questions, making the potentially complex easy to understand. Dispenza uses neuroscience, physiology, epigenetics (the influence of environmental factors on the expression of genes), physics and our connection with the quantum (or unified) field to explain how we are capable of affecting our personal outcomes.

He discusses the thought-emotion loop, how stress affects our physical well-being, our energy centres (also known as chakras), and the second main ingredient to creating change, raising our consciousness. So, we know that meditation is good for us, but Dispenza goes to great lengths to explain not only how it works but also how we should be meditating. He states in Supernatural, “When you take your attention off the people in your life, you become no one – and so you no longer have an identity as a parent, a partner, a sibling, a friend, or even as a member of a profession, a religious group, a political party, or a nationality. You have no race, no gender, no sexual orientation and no age. When you take your attention off objects and places…you are in no thing and no where. Finally, if you take attention off linear time (which has a past and a future), you are in no time – you are in the present moment, in which all possibilities in the quantum field exist. Because you are no longer identifying with or connected to the physical world, you are no longer trying to affect matter with matter – you are beyond matter….The moment that happens, you unfold your attention and energy into an unknown field beyond matter where all possibilities exist…if you focus on the known, you will get the known. If you focus on the unknown, you create a possibility.”

By raising our consciousness and focusing on feelings of gratitude, love, joy, compassion, freedom, awe, self-worth, happiness, empowerment and other positive or “higher” emotions, and disconnecting from the physical world, we put ourselves in the position to create, change and shape, calling forth a future of endless possibility.
